Desired coaching behaviours of elite divers during competition

A great deal of research on coach-athlete interactions during competition has focused team sports, something which does not consider the many contextual differences between and individual sports. Diving is an sport where recurrent intermittent breaks dives in provide athletes coaches with opportunities to communicate interact event. The purpose this study was understand elite divers’ perspectives their coaches’ behaviours competition. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews documents six national springboard platform divers. reflexive thematic analysis data revealed that carefully developed implemented individualised routines pressures Athletes discussed importance trust understanding as crucial elements facilitate performance a high-risk sport. also found it particularly challenging when they felt frustrated, disappointed, or giving up them. From practical perspective, our findings are useful for similar sports throughout long day competition, such track field, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, weightlifting.
